Store Features and Preferences

This documentation has been updated as of 9/30/2021 to reflect the layout changes we have made to the Store Preferences page and to include new settings that we have added. 

STORE FEATURES

Navigate to: Store > Configuration > Account Information & Preferences > Store Features

There are a wide variety of features that can be toggled on or off for your site.  If you see something interesting on another IndieCommerce site, (like an 'Add to Wishlist' button) chances are that it can be found under ‘Store Features’. We definitely recommend browsing this list at your convenience.

1. To request activation select ‘Enable This Feature’ for the desired feature
2. Scroll to the bottom of the page and select ‘Send request to ABA’
   • After you submit an activation request to staff@bookweb.org, ABA staff will enable the requested features, and send a confirmation email detailing any additional information about the function.
3. Want to disable a feature? Select the ‘Disable This Feature’ button and ‘Send request to ABA’. We’ll confirm when it has been disabled.

STORE PREFERENCES

Navigate to: Store > Configuration > Account Information & Preferences > Store Preferences

There are 'Preferences' that can be set within the site, by a Store Admin:

BOOKS

1. Remove Shot Discount Titles From Search - This preference refers to books that have a wholesaler disocunt of less than 35% and allows you to decide if you would like these titles to appear in search results.
   1. If the checkmark is PRESENT, these books will be removed from search results. Customers can still purchase these books from wishlists, book lists, searching by ISBN, etc.
   2. If the checkmark is REMOVED, these books will appear in search results.
2. Prevent Short Discount Book Sales - This preferences refers to books that have a wholesaler discount of less than 35% and allows you to decide if you would like to sell these books.
   1. If the checkmark is PRESENT, these books will not be available for purchase and will be displayed with the text entered into the message field.
   2. If the checkmark is REMOVED, these books will be available for customers to purchase.
3. Prevent Short Discount for Ingram Fulfillment - This refers to books that have a wholesaler discount of less than 35%. By default, these titles are NOT sent to Ingram for fulfillment, as many stores feel they can get a better discount elsewhere.
   1. If the checkmark is PRESENT, these items will NOT be sent to Ingram, and the order will be store-fulfilled.
   2. If the checkmark is REMOVED, these items could be sent to Ingram for fulfillment.
4. NET Discount Sales - This preference refers to books that have a wholesaler discount of 0% and are sold to the store at list price. This preference allows you to decide if you would like to sell these books.
   1. If the checkmark is PRESENT, these books will not be available purchase and will not be displayed with the sell price. You may also change the language that appears on these titles through this setting.
   2. If the checkmark is REMOVED, these books will be available for customers to purchase.
5. Special Order - Special Order items are titles that Ingram lists in their database, but do not currently have in stock (whether back-ordered, OSI, OP, or just not carried by Ingram). These can be excluded for sale through the website.
   1. If the checkmark is PRESENT, Special Order items will NOT be available for sale through the website.
   2. If the checkmark is REMOVED, customers will be able to put these items in their shopping cart.
6. Allow Backorder Sales? - If this option appears your site does not allow the sale of books not in stock at Ingram ("Special Order"). Backordered titles are those that Ingram carries but does not have in stock currently. This will allow books on order, but not on hand, at Ingram to be sold on your site. Books neither on hand nor on order at Ingram will remain unavailable for purchase.
   1. If the checkmark is PRESENT, the 'Add to Cart' button will appear for titles that fall under the category 'Backordered'
   2. If the checkmark is REMOVED, the 'Add to Cart' button will not appear for titles that fall under the category 'Backordered
7. Prevent Hard to Find Sales? - If this option appears your site allows the sale of books not in stock at Ingram ("Special Order"). 'Hard to Find' titles are those that the publisher or Ingram has specified are out of stock indefinitely. Titles unavailable through Ingram without such information will remain available for purchase.
   1. If the checkmark is PRESENT, the 'Add to Cart' button will not appear for titles that fall under the category 'Hard to Find'
   2. If the checkmark is REMOVED, the 'Add to Cart' button will appear for titles that fall under the category 'Hard to Find'
8. Not Yet Published - These are books that have a pub date that is further than 10 weeks away. They are generally not available for pre-order, since book data that far from actual publication is subject to change, and titles can even be canceled. This preference allows a store to make these titles available for pre-order.
   1. If the checkmark is PRESENT, customers will see the "Add to Cart" button for these titles.
   2. If the checkmark is REMOVED, the button will not appear, and customers cannot purchase this title on your site.
9. Default Product Description (IndieCommerce members only) - This feature allows you to display the default product descriptions on all booklists.
   1. If the checkmark is PRESENT, the default product description will be displayed on all booklists automatically. If you opt to enter a ‘Product Review’ for a particular book, the review will replace the default description.
   2. If the checkmark is REMOVED, the default product description will not be displayed on booklists automatically. You can still add ‘Product Review’ separately on a book by book basis.
10. Show Large Cover Image (IndieCommerce members only) - This preference allows you to display larger cover images on the product pages, instead of the defaulted small ones.
    1. If the checkmark is PRESENT, large cover images will be displayed
    2. If the checkmark is REMOVED, small cover images will be displayed
11. Sell Only LSI (IndieCommerce members only) - A useful feature for all bookstores to limit online sales to what is in stock at the store. This feature can be enabled and disabled as needed.
    1. If the checkmark is PRESENT, this setting will show the 'Add to cart' button only if a book is currently in stock in LSI. Customers will still be able to see other books but cannot buy them. 
    2. If the checkmark is REMOVED, the 'Add to cart' button will be shown on books in and out of stock in LSI.

CHECKOUT

1. Always Save Credit Card Profile (IndieCommerce members only) - By default, the system allows customers to decide whether or not they save their credit card information to their account. This preference allows you (the store) to ALWAYS save the credit card information.
   1. If the checkmark is PRESENT, customers will not have an option to opt out of saving credit card information during checkout. Credit card information will automatically be saved.
   2. If the checkmark is REMOVED, customers can opt out of saving their credit card information.

Keep in mind that what is saved is the 'Credit Card Profile' – a reference to the customer's credit card, and not the actual credit card information. And, even that profile is not saved on your IndieCommerce site or by ABA. This is a reference to the customer credit card on a secure service with Authorize.net. Please be aware,  we highly recommend adding a note somewhere on your site to notify customers that you are saving their 'Credit Card Profile'

2. Hide Logo In Invoice - This preference allows you to hide the logo from being displayed on order invoices and confirmation emails.
   1. If the checkmark is PRESENT, the logo will be removed from order invoices and confirmation emails. Your site name and address will still appear.
   2. If the checkmark is REMOVED, the logo will appear on order invoices and confirmation emails along with your site name and address.
3. Hide Store Name In Invoice (IndieCommerce members only) - This preference allows you to hide the store name from being displayed on order invoices and confirmation emails.
   1. If the checkmark is PRESENT, the store name will be removed from order invoices and confirmation emails. Your logo will still appear.
   2. If the checkmark is REMOVED, the store name will appear on order invoices and confirmation emails along with your logo and address.

MISCELLANEOUS

1. Disable Search by ISBN-10 (IndieCommerce members only) - This preference allows you to disable the functionality that allows a user to search by a 10 digit ISBN and be automatically directed to the book page for the corresponding 13 digit ISBN book.
   1. If the checkmark is PRESENT, users cannot search by ISBN-10
   2. If the checkmark is REMOVED, users can search by ISBN-10. The ISBN-10 will automatically be converted to ISBN-13 and the customer taken directly to the matching book page.
2. Disable Pop-up on Event Calendar (IndieCommerce members only) - When the ABA Responsive Event calendar is enabled, the pop-up is enabled by default. This preferent allows you to disable the pop-up but keep the responsive mobile view.
   1. If the checkmark is PRESENT, the pop-up is disabled.
   2. If the checkmark is REMOVED, the pop-up is active and will appear.

CONFIGURE BOOK SETTINGS (INDIECOMMERCE MEMBERS ONLY)

Navigate to: Store > Configuration > Account Information and Preferences > Configure Book Settings

1. Book Availability Statuses - Here you can adjust the language used for each availability status
   1. On Our Shelves Now - Books that have stock in the store's Local Store Inventory file and are available immediately from the store.
   2. Usually Ships in 1 - 5 Days - Books that are available from Ingram and can be ordered from the wholesaler.
   3. Backordered - Books that are available through Ingram but are currently on backorder.
   4. Coming Soon - Available for Pre-Order Now - Books that will be available from Ingram or the store and are currently available for pre-order
   5. Not Yet Published - Books that will be available from Ingram or the store but have a publish date outside of the preorder timeframe.
   6. Special Order - Books that are listed in Ingram's database but do not have stock 
   7. Hard to Find - Books that are listed as 'Out of Stock' from Ingram indefinitely
   8. Out of Print - Books that are no longer in print
   9. Unavailable - Books that are unavailable for purchase for whatever reason, whether listed by the store as Not For Sale or marked as such by Ingram
   10. On Our Shelves Now (Detail Page) - Optionally, provide an alternate "On Our Shelves Now" status description to be used on the product detail page
   11. Add Special Messaging On Books That Cannot Be Returned to Ingram - Books that cannot be returned to Ingram
2. Other Book Settings -
   • Allow Preorder of Books within: Adjust the time frame of books considered a 'Pre-order'. Books within the set period will appear as "Coming Soon - Available for Preorder Now" and can be purchased by customers. Books outside of this period will appear as "Not Yet Published".
   • Show Related Editions at Top of Page: Select how many of the related edition links appear at the top of the page instead of the bottom
   • Sell Calendars, Maps, blank books, and other book-like sideline items (Ingram Department Code T)?: Check this box to make the products that fall under the Ingram T category available for purchase on your site.
   • Sell Gift & Game sideline items from Ingram (Ingram Department Code M)?: Check this box to make the products that fall under the Ingram M cateogry available for purchase on your site.
   • Show NPR Stories?: Check this box to show an embedded player with NPR book content if it is available for a given book.
   • Show Book Marks from LitHub?: Check this box to show embedded review content from LitHub.
   • Always show preorder badge?: Check this box to add a preorder badge to all books with a future publication date. Leave unchecked to only add badges to books specifically marked as preorders on the Staff Reviews page.
   • Validate ISBNs when adding books to a book list?: Check this box to validate all ISBNs when adding a book to a booklist. This will convert ISBN-10 to -13, remove hyphens, and check that no custom products exist with a similar SKU.
