The Browse Book block, which can be found on the block administration page (Structure > Blocks), consists of every BISAC category available. Selecting a category changes the block menu and provides sub-categories within that category and updates the books displayed accordingly.

Example:

  • Select  ‘Cooking’ from the main category list - a selection of cookbooks is now displayed
  • The category list now changes to categories within ‘Cooking’ - select ‘Holiday’ - a selection of Holiday cookbooks is now displayed.

CONFIGURE THE BROWSE BOOK BLOCK

You may choose which top-level BISAC codes are offered in the Browse Book block.

Navigate to: Structure > Blocks

  1. Locate the block called ‘Browse Books’
  2. Select ‘Configure’
  3. Deselect any of the BISAC codes you do not want to be displayed
  4. Set the region you would like the block to appear in - We recommend a sidebar unless you have greatly limited the BISAC codes that appear, the list will be long
  5. Set the page visibility settings - We recommend setting this to appear on ‘Only the listed pages and entering browse/book into the text field
  6. Save

The block is now configured and should appear on www.yoursitename.com/browse/book

CONFIGURE THE BROWSE BOOK DISPLAY

You may select up to four categories for the front page of the browse book display. If left blank, all categories will be used.

Navigate to: Structure > Blocks

  1. Locate the block called ‘Browse Books’
  2. Select ‘Configure’
  3. Scroll down to ‘Front Page Categories’ and select up to 4
  4. Save

The display of books that appears on www.yoursitename.com/browse/book will now be limited to books within the selected categories.

CREATE A CUSTOM BROWSE BOOKS BLOCK

Using the instructions provided in ‘Create A Block’ and the links provided in the default Browse Books block you can create your own customized version showing only the categories your prefer.

PREPARE TO MAKE YOUR BLOCK
When you select a category from the default Browse Book block the URL in your browser changes to the corresponding page. To prepare to make your custom block create a list of the category URLs you want to use in a TXT file.

  1. Click the category - the Browse Book block is set by default to appear on yoursitename.com/browe/book
  2. Copy the Internal URL portion

    • The Internal URL portion is everything that comes after .com - Example: yoursitename.com/browse/book/CKB000000
  3. Paste into a TXT file

Repeat steps 1-3 until you have all the category URLs you intend to use.

CREATE YOUR CUSTOM BLOCK
Navigate to: Structure > Blocks > Add Blocks

  1. Enter a ‘Block title’: this will be the title of your block displayed to users - Example: Browse Books
  2. Enter a ‘Block description’: this is how you will identify what the block is from the block admin page - Example: Custom list of browse book categories
  3. Enter a ‘Block Body’: this is where you will enter your list of categories and link them to the appropriate page:

    1. Enter the name of the category - Example: Cookbooks
    2. Copy the corresponding URL you previously saved
    3. Highlight the word cookbooks
    4. Using the link icon on the WYSIWIG editor paste your internal URL - Example: /browse/book/CKB000000
    5. Select Ok
  4. Repeat steps a-e until all of your preferred categories have been listed and linked
  5. Select the region of the theme you wish to display the block in - Example: Bootstrap Business - Sidebar first
  6. Adjust your visibility settings as preferred
  7. Save block

Your new block has now been created and placed on your site.

ADD THE BROWSE BOOK CATEGORIES TO A MENU

Navigate to: Structure > Menus > Main Menu (or menu of choice)

ADD LINK TO BROWSE BOOK PAGE

  1. Select ‘Add Link’.
  2. Complete the ‘Menu’ form:

    1. Menu Link Title - This is the title that will display in the 'Menu.’ - Example: Browse Books
    2. Path - This is the path of the page you are linking to. Example: browse/book
    3. Description - This will display when the hovering over the link. Example: Browse books by genre
  3. Make sure the ‘Enabled’ field is selected. If not, the link will not appear in the menu.
  4. Weight - This allows you to determine where the link falls in the menu. Lower numbers will be closer to the beginning while higher numbers are closer to the end.
  5. Save

ADD LINKS TO SPECIFIC CATEGORIES

  1. Select ‘Add Link’.
  2. Complete the ‘Menu’ form:

    1. Menu Link Title - This is the title that will display in the 'Menu.’ - Example: Fiction
    2. Path - This is the path of the page you are linking to. Example: browse/book/FIC000000 You can obtain the path to the specific category by selecting the category from the default Browse Book block and making note of the page URL it leads to.
    3. Description - This will display when hovering over the link. Example: Browse Fiction books
  3. Make sure the ‘Enabled’ field is selected. If not, the link will not appear in the menu.
  4. Set your ‘Parent Item’ -  A 'Parent Item' is the category that your item will be nested under, and can be a menu item, or an entire menu. Example: If you have a top-level menu item called 'Browse Books' and a sub-menu item called 'Fiction,' the parent-child relationship would be as follows:

    1. ‘Browse Books’ - Parent Item is ‘Main Menu’
    2. ‘Fiction’ - Parent Item is ‘Browse Books’
  5. Weight - This allows you to determine where the link falls in the menu. Lower numbers will be closer to the beginning while higher numbers are closer to the end.
  6. Save
