The Fall 2005 Children's Book Sense Picks can now be previewed at news.bookweb.org/read/3746. Stores with Book Sense will begin receiving the Children's Picks fliers, which are mailed directly from the printer, beginning next week. This list is the result of the extensive participation of independent booksellers nationwide, and Book Sense extends many thanks to all who sent in nominations.

In conjunction with fall History Channel programming, the upcoming Book Sense Fall History Top Ten will focus on "DaVinci and Other Forward Thinkers." The goal of the list will be to feature titles -- in nonfiction or fiction, hardcover or paperback -- that profile luminaries in science, art, and industry throughout the ages.

This list will continue the Book Sense Picks association with The History Channel, which has previously featured such topics as JFK and D-Day.

The Association of American Publishers (AAP) recently announced the release of their latest newsletter for Get Caught Reading, the Association of American Publisher's campaign to promote the joy of reading, now beginning its seventh year.

To help booksellers prepare for Banned Books Week (September 24 - October 1), here is a preview of the Fall 2005 Book Sense Banned Books Top Ten. The Banned Books pads are being sent to stores in the August Red Box and will arrive in time for booksellers to incorporate the list in their stores' Banned Books Week displays. Tomorrow, Friday, August 12, is the deadline for nominations for the Halloween/Get Caught Reading Top Ten, a collaboration of Book Sense and the Association of American Publishers. Nominations for the list may be either children's or adult trade titles.

In the 1,400-square-foot store, Koehler and a committed staff offer personal attention, in-store workshops for librarians, year-round activities for kids, and help for dozens of book clubs.
