Due to next week's Memorial Day holiday, the Book Sense Bestseller List reporting deadline will be extended.
Booksellers will have until midnight (11:00 p.m. for BookScan) on Tuesday, May 31, to report for next week's lists, which will be posted on BookWeb late on Wednesday.
 Book-banning is familiar territory for Chris Crutcher: Each of his nine books has caught the attention of censors around the country. It is fitting, then, that his latest novel, The Sledding Hill (Greenwillow Books), a Summer 2005 Book Sense Children's Pick, explores friendship, grief, growing up -- and a censorship attempt at an Idaho high school.
 BookSense.com websites will be down from 9:00 a.m. Eastern Time on Friday, June 10, through Saturday evening, June 11. Customers will be presented with a "Down for Maintenance" page during this time, when BookSense.com will be moving its servers to a new location. Normal service will be restored by Sunday, June 12.

Building on the success of Book Sense Best Books: 125 Favorite Books Recommended by Independent Booksellers, Newmarket Press and Book Sense are teaming up once again -- to publish Book Sense Best Children's Books: Favorites for All Ages Recommended by Independent Booksellers. The new title, to be published in September 2005, will feature more than 200 "favorite book" recommendations from independent booksellers with Book Sense.
 The 2005 Book Sense Summer Paperback Picks, with booksellers' comments, is now available on BookWeb.org. To view the entire list, go to news.bookweb.org/read/3520. The printed list will be sent to stores with Book Sense in the June Red Box mailing.
Looking to better represent the nature of children's bookselling and publishing, Book Sense has revamped its Children's Bestsellers List by breaking out bestsellers into three categories: "Children's Interest," "Illustrated," and "Series Fiction."
