Booksellers participating in the Book Sense Gift Card Program can now order four limited edition Dungeons & Dragons gift cards, sponsored by Wizards of the Coast. Featuring art from the Dungeons & Dragons (D&D) role-playing game that has defined the genre and set the standard for fantasy role-playing for more than 30 years, the cards will make perfect holiday gifts for teens.
 To help booksellers participating in the Book Sense program promote sales of the 2005 National Book Award finalists and winners, the National Book Foundation has provided shelf-talkers in the October Red Box mailing. Included are 20 "National Book Award Finalist" shelf-talkers and four "Winner" shelf-talkers.
Based on sales in independent bookstores with Book Sense nationwide for the eight-week period ending October 16, 2005.

Book Sense Picks Editor-in-Chief Dan Cullen reminds booksellers that the deadline for the Winter Children's Book Sense Picks List is Friday, October 14, and he asks as many booksellers as possible to participate in helping build the list by e-mailing him nominations sometime today or tomorrow.
 Stores with Book Sense should be on the lookout for special promotional materials in the October Red Box for a Zathura sweepstakes, beginning October 23. Offering customers a chance to win $2,000, the sweepstakes ties into the November 11 release of the film version of Zathura, based on Chris Van Allsburg's bestselling book, published by Houghton Mifflin.
 As a helpful reminder, here is a "Three-Month Bookseller Action List" highlighting important dates related to ABA/Book Sense programs and events for the period October through December 2005. The list may also be downloaded in PDF format.

Here is the full listing of the November Book Sense Picks, with booksellers' comments, as well as a preview of the month's Notables. Independent booksellers in the Book Sense program will be receiving their November Picks fliers in the October Red Box. (The flier includes jacket images, bibliographic information, and bookseller quotes.)
There are two significant deadlines approaching for the Book Sense Picks lists.
 BookSense.com technical staff will be performing planned maintenance on the site this Sunday, October 9, from 6:00 p.m. to midnight Eastern Time. For at least part of this time, and possibly all of it, BookSense.com stores and their customers will be unable to access store websites. Administrative pages will also be inaccessible.
