The Winter 2005/2006 Children's Book Sense Picks can now be previewed on BookWeb.org.
Booksellers should be receiving the Children's Picks fliers at their stores soon.
The list is the result of enthusiastic nominations from independent booksellers nationwide, both children's specialty stores and general independents.
 Stores with Book Sense should be promoting the Zathura sweepstakes, which ties into Columbia Pictures' film version of Zathura in theaters now. The sweepstakes, sponsored by Houghton Mifflin, the publisher of Chris Van Allsburg's bestselling book, offers consumers a chance to win $2,000.

 The demand for gift cards is exploding according to CNN/Money, and retailers of all sorts -- gas stations, restaurants, hair salons, and many more -- are looking to cash in on the $45 billion gift card business. This demand is fueled in part by busy holiday shoppers, who value the one-stop-shopping convenience of gift cards.
Booksellers should no longer be selling Book Sense gift certificates; they should, however, continue to redeem valid certificates sold before June 1, 2005.
In October 2004, the American Booksellers Association announced that it was discontinuing the Book Sense Gift Certificate Program and that by December 31, 2004, it would stop selling paper certificates to bookstores. By June 1, 2005, stores were required to stop selling Book Sense gift certificates.
