Bookstore Romance Day 2024: How Your Store Can Share The Love
Love is in the air! August 17 is the sixth annual Bookstore Romance Day. Created by Billie Bloebaum, Bookstore Romance Day is a day designed to give independent bookstores an opportunity to celebrate Romance fiction — its books, readers, and writers — and to strengthen the relationships between bookstores and the Romance community. Any store that sells Romance Fiction titles is encouraged to participate!
To prepare your store for next month’s event, here are some to-do’s and store ideas:
Sign up to participate
For your store to be listed on the participating bookstores map hosted on the Bookstore Romance Day site, be sure to sign up ASAP! We’ll be posting the map link to our socials as well.
Utilize The Bookstore Romance Day Marketing Assets
On the Bookstore Romance Day Marketing and Promotional Assets page, stores can find sample posts for social media and a whole suite of graphics to promote the celebration.
Create an Atmosphere of Romance
Transform your bookstore or pop-up with romantic decorations. Think fairy lights and cozy reading nooks. This will set the perfect mood for browsing romance novels. If setting up displays in the window or on tables, make an effort to include titles that showcase diverse relationships and authors. This inclusivity can attract a wider audience and promote the richness of the genre.
- Third Place Books in Seattle, Washington, created a Romance Grab Pack table last year with themed packages like "Crushes in Kilts" and "Laughter (with a side of love)".
- Schuler Books in Michigan created conversation heart pins and bookmarks as giveaways.
Get Social
Use social media to share romantic book recommendations and engage with your audience. Encourage customers to share their own love stories or favorite romantic moments. Display these stories in-store or on your social media platforms to create a sense of community.
