French Novelist Wins Nobel Prize

On Thursday, October 9, Jean-Marie Gustave Le Clezio, a French novelist, children's author, and essayist, was named the winner of the 2008 Nobel Prize for literature. 2008 Bellwether Prize Winner Announced

Heidi W. Durrow of Los Angeles has been named the 2008 winner of the Bellwether Prize for Fiction. Durrow will receive the $25,000 award for her unpublished novel, and the opportunity to work with an editor at Algonquin Books of Chapel Hill. The Bellwether Prize, which was established by Barbara Kingsolver, is awarded biennially to a promising first-time novelist working in the tradition of socially engaged literature.
