Oren Teicher to Become ABA's Next CEO

Yesterday, ABA President Gayle Shanks notified association bookstore members via e-mail that the position of association CEO had been offered to, and accepted by, Oren J. Teicher, ABA's current COO. In January, Avin Mark Domnitz, ABA CEO for the past 12 years, announced that he would be stepping down. Teicher's appointment is effective June 1, 2009.

Carmichael's Wins PW's Bookseller of the Year

Carmichael's Bookstore in Louisville, Kentucky, has been named the recipient of this year's Publishers Weekly Bookseller of the Year Award. Co-owners Carol Besse and Michael Boggs were stunned, said Besse. "We're really gratified to have been nominated, and we just didn't have any expectation at all that we would win." PW cited the bookstore's close relationship with its customers, as well as its tripling profits over the past decade.

BookSoup to Host a Celebration of Glenn Goldman

BookSoup is hosting a celebration of the life of Glenn Goldman on Friday, January 16, at 7:00 p.m.

The store sent an open e-mail invitation to anyone who would like to come and asked that the invitation be passed along to others who might be interested in attending.
