On February 13, Algonquin kicked off “Lucky 7,” a monthly e-book promotion offering seven backlist titles in e-book format for seven days for $1.99 each. In recognition of Valentine’s Day, Algonquin chose the theme “Author Crush” and asked seven well-known authors to choose their favorite Algonquin title – “a book they have an undeniable, passionate crush on.”

“Algonquin’s Lucky 7 is a way for us to spotlight many of our backlist books in an ongoing way, and in a manner and price that’s attractive to readers,” said Michael Taeckens, online and paperback marketing director for Algonquin. “Our primary emphasis was really on the indie booksellers. We’re focusing almost exclusively on backlist titles, and we’re heavily promoting the word that readers can buy e-books via their favorite indie bookstore websites. Each day we’ll be shouting this from the rooftops via our social media channels.”

This month’s featured titles are Michael Parker’s If You Want Me to Stay; Richard Goodman’s French Dirt; Jill McCorkle’s Going Away Shoes; Larry Brown’s Dirty Work; Brock Clarke’s An Arsonist’s Guide to Writers’ Homes in New England; Jim Grimsley’s Winter Birds; and Joseph Skibell’s A Blessing on the Moon.

Upcoming themes include Staff Favorites, Armchair Travel, and Our Southern Roots. Featured titles will cover an array of genres, including both fiction and nonfiction.

Promotional materials for “Lucky 7” can be found, along with other ongoing publisher promos, on IndieCommerce Publisher Promotions page.

“So far the response has been wildly enthusiastic,” said Taeckens. “We’ve heard from stores around the country who are excited to be taking part. Many of them are featuring the promo in their newsletter and on their websites, and with [Monday’s] launch, we’ve already seen a lot of social media activity from the indies. We’re really glad it’s taking off to such a good start!”
