One e-book promotion was recently added to the IndieCommerce Publisher Promotions page in the category of classic literature.  

Here’s the latest on the new Indie App, which allows customers to purchase Kobo eBooks through smartphones, computers, and tablets and have them credited to a local participating ABA member bookstore.

The American Booksellers Foundation for Free Expression is urging booksellers, artists, and other supporters of the free speech rights of kids to help promote its latest auction of children’s book art.

Before the holiday season starts in earnest, here are a few items for booksellers’ attention in connection with Winter Institute 2014, which convenes from January 21–24 at the Westin Seattle.

The Women’s National Book Association is seeking nominations for its 2014 WNBA Pannell Award, presented annually to a general bookstore and to a children’s specialty store for enhancing their communities by employing exceptional creativity in fostering a love of reading in their young patrons.

World Book Night U.S. Executive Director Carl Lennertz announced today that three titles have been added to the 2014 offerings, raising the number of books to be given away by volunteers on April 23, 2014, to 550,000.

The Indies First movement started in the U.S. by Sherman Alexie has spread to Venice, Italy, where it will also be celebrated on November 30.

This week, ABA announced the winners of 55 scholarships to the 2014 Winter Institute in Seattle. Forty-nine of the scholarships have been awarded to booksellers by the Winter Institute’s publisher sponsors.

On Monday, November 11, Amazon.com announced that it had struck a deal with the United States Postal Service that will enable the online retailer to offer Amazon Prime customers Sunday delivery in certain areas. ABA CEO Oren Teicher called the move disconcerting and said,  “The postal service’s role is not to pick favorites among competitors.”

To date, more than 700 authors will be handselling their favorite titles at over 400 bookstores as part of Indies First, the grassroots movement launched by author Sherman Alexie.

Kobo has designed a way to provide stores with dedicated tracking links for downloads of the Kobo Reading App, so customers who read eBooks on devices other than eReaders can purchase books through smartphones, computers, and tablets and have them credited to the store.

Seven e-book promotions were recently added to the IndieCommerce Publisher Promotions page. Categories include romance, steals and deals, JFK, Aldous Huxley, and teen and middle grade deals.  

 On Wednesday, the Campaign for Reader Privacy urged Congress to pass the USA Freedom Act to restore privacy protections that were eliminated by the Patriot Act. CRP is a joint initiative of ABA, ALA, AAP, and PEN American Center.
