Before the holiday season starts in earnest, here are a few items for booksellers’ attention in connection with Winter Institute 2014, which convenes from January 21– 24 at the Westin Seattle.

Check out the growing list of participating authors and request galleys where available

Author appearances are a highlight of each year’s institute, and an impressive roster will be joining booksellers in Seattle this winter. The Author Page on the Winter Institute website features the ever-growing list of authors scheduled to make an appearance. The page is being updated on an ongoing basis as participants are confirmed, so booksellers are encouraged to revisit often. Additionally, new this year, several publishers are offering bookseller attendees early print or e-galleys upon request; if an early preview of an author’s new work is available, contact information is provided at the end of the author bio.

Make appointments for the Consultation Station

Interested booksellers should make appointments to meet with representatives of ABA’s affiliated business solution partners, POS vendors, and other service providers who will be taking part in Wi9’s Consultation Station.  Institute attendees can find the list of participating businesses and contact information on the Consultation Station webpage. The Consultation Station will be open on Thursday, January 23, from 10:15 a.m. to 4:15 p.m., and on Friday, January 24, from 10:15 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

Send an e-mail to receive complimentary admission to the Seattle Gift Show

The winter Seattle Gift Show will be held from Saturday, January 18, through Tuesday, January 21, at the Washington State Convention Center. Winter Institute attendees who are in Seattle early can attend the gift show free of charge and take advantage of the opportunity to explore 10,000 innovative, new product lines. To receive a complimentary admission and a lunch voucher, Winter Institute registrants should send an e-mail to the show’s Jhana Jordan with their bookstore name and the names of each staff member who would like to attend. Those who pre-register will receive a full-color product preview guide. For more information, visit the Seattle Gift Show website.

Let ABA know ASAP if your Winter Institute plans have changed

With booksellers on waiting lists to register for the Winter Institute, and for a hotel reservation at the ABA rate at the Westin Seattle, the association is asking anyone whose plans have changed to send an e-mail to [email protected]. If cancellations are received, ABA will contact booksellers on the waiting lists on a first-come, first-served basis.
