This week, the American Booksellers Association announced a number of new benefits available exclusively to bookstore and provisional members staying at Hotel ABA -- the New York Marriott at the Brooklyn Bridge -- during BookExpo America 2009.

There's still time for booksellers at ABA member stores to reserve a spot at this year's Celebration of Bookselling Luncheon at BookExpo America. The free event -- open exclusively to the owners and staff of ABA member stores -- will be held in the Special Events Hall at New York's Javits Convention Center on Friday, May 29.

This week, BookExpo America (BEA) announced the editors and title selections for two "Buzz Forums" at the 2009 trade show at New York City's Javits Convention Center. The traditional Editor & Bookseller Buzz Forum will be held on Thursday, May 28, and a new Young Adult Buzz Forum has been added to the lineup on Friday, May 29.

Today the American Booksellers Association provides a first look at programming for its seventh annual Day of Education, to be held on Thursday, May 28, at BookExpo America. This year, the Day of Education, sponsored by Ingram Book Group/Ingram Publisher Services, returns to the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center as part of a series of innovations designed to invigorate the convention and to give booksellers and other industry professionals more networking opportunities.

This week, BookExpo America announced the opening of online registration for this year's trade show, at New York City's Jacob K. Javits Convention Center from Thursday, May 28, through Sunday, May 31, 2009.

On Thursday, March 5, BookExpo America announced the lineup of authors participating at special events at this May's trade show in New York City. Among the writers to be showcased at the Author Breakfasts, the Saturday Lunch, the Audiobook Tea, or Meet the Bestsellers are Julie Andrews Edwards, Craig Ferguson, Tracy Kidder, Jeanette Walls, Pat Conroy, Kathie Lee Gifford, Joe Scarborough, Richard Russo, and Nicholas Sparks.

GLIBA Awards Six Buy Local Grants

The Great Lakes Independent Booksellers Association (GLIBA) has announced the recipients of Buy Local grants ranging from $100 to $500 and underwritten by the sponsorship of Bookazine.

The six recipients are:

Reservations for Hotel ABA 2009, the New York Marriott at the Brooklyn Bridge in Brooklyn, the popular home to ABA members during BEA 2007, are capped at 500 and filling fast.

As announced last week, all ABA regular bookstore and provisional members who wish to claim free admission badges to this spring's BookExpo America must authorize the American Booksellers Association to share relevant information with BEA officials.

Kids Heart Authors Day a "Fabulous Success"

A new initiative announced by the American Booksellers Association and BookExpo America last month entitles all regular ABA bookstore and provisional members to free admission to this year's trade show. The number of free badges a bookstore will receive is based on a store's sales volume as well as participation in the recently concluded Winter Institute.
