This March marks the 10th annual celebration of National Small Press Month (NSPM) , co-sponsored by the Small Press Center; PMA, the Independent Book Publishers Association; and the Council of Literary Magazines and Presses (CLMP). And April, of course, is National Poetry Month, which was inaugurated by the Academy of American Poets (AAP) in 1996.
 Under the American Booksellers Association's bylaws, in addition to Board of Director candidates put forth by the Nominating Committee and approved by the Board, any bookstore member may submit a petition for a director candidate.  Island Books, Judy Crosby's 13-year-old bookstore, is located in Middletown, on Aquidneck Island, one of the earliest colonial settlement sites in Rhode Island. Until 1731, Middletown was a part of neighboring Newport, the seaside town long famous as a vacation spot for the extraordinarily wealthy.
 On February 14, the U.S. Commerce Department delivered a valentine to the nation's economy. At 8:30 a.m., the agency released a monthly sales estimate for January showing that retail and food services sales were up 2.3 percent from December 2005 and had risen 8.8 percent over January 2005. Estimated January sales were $365.4 billion, adjusted for seasonal variation and holiday and trading-day differences, but not for price changes.
 On Monday, February 13, at the Fountain Bookstore in Richmond, Virginia, the American Booksellers Association presented a Booksellers Forum and Education Program in conjunction with the Southern Independence Booksellers Alliance (SIBA). Approximately 30 booksellers attended the event, which featured a SIBA membership session, the Booksellers Forum, and the ABA session "Creating a 'Buy Local' Campaign."
The American Booksellers Association's Booksellers Forum Tour will return to the Pacific Northwest with a forum and educational programming, held in conjunction with the Pacific Northwest Booksellers Association (PNBA) Spring Show, which runs from March 16 to 18 at the Hilton Hotel, Seattle Airport. All members of PNBA and ABA -- owners and staff -- are welcome to participate in the free program.
The American Booksellers Association will hold two Booksellers Forums in the Southern Independent Booksellers Alliance (SIBA) region in March. On Tuesday, March 14, there will be an ABA Booksellers Forum in New Orleans at Galatoire's restaurant on Bourbon Street, and on Friday, March 17, ABA will hold a forum and present educational programs at the Omni Hotel at the CNN Center in Atlanta.
