Downloadable Book Sense Directories Now Available

This week, the American Booksellers Association launched on BookWeb new customizable, printable directories of stores with Book Sense and stores offering Book Sense gift cards. The new functionality, which uses PDF format, allows booksellers to choose specific states to build a customized directory or to print the entire list of approximately 1,200 Book Sense locations, or in the case of gift cards, the approximately 380 locations.

Previously, ABA had been printing and mailing a full Book Sense Directory every quarter and shipping one copy in the Book Sense Red Box. However, these quickly became out of date.

"Now, booksellers can create their own lists whenever they want," said ABA Marketing Director Jill Perlstein, who explained that ABA updates the database daily. "Booksellers can print a list for one state, for surrounding states, for the region, or for the entire country."

Options to print a one-sided or a two-sided PDF are offered. All listings will include the bookstore's web address, whether or not the store participates in BookSense.com, as long as the store has a website URL on file with ABA. Stores in the Book Sense Gift Card program and specific specialties are included as well.

"Consumers are encouraged to visit www.BookSense.com or to call 1-888-BookSense to find locations," said Perlstein, "but the new directories on BookWeb will provide another useful tool for stores with Book Sense."

The freely available Adobe® Reader® is necessary to view PDFs. The new directories are only available to ABA bookstore members.
