A new video posted to BookWeb.org affords viewers a peek at highlights of the January 2014 Winter Institute. A number of handouts and PowerPoint presentations from Wi9 education sessions are now available to ABA members on BookWeb’s Education Curriculum page.

A broad range of booksellers, librarians, publishers, and organizations, including the American Booksellers Association and the American Booksellers Foundation for Free Expression, have submitted a friend-of-the-court brief in the case of Susan B. Anthony List v. Driehaus, which will be argued before the Supreme Court on April 22.

Publishers Weekly has named five finalists for its 22nd annual PW Bookstore of the Year Award. The finalists were chosen by past award  winners from 18 nominated stores.

The official 2014 Children’s Book Week poster commemorating the 95th year of the reading and literacy celebration, running this year from May 12 to 18, was designed by Robin Preiss Glasser, the award-winning illustrator of the Fancy Nancy series.

In order to receive rebates, participating bookstores must log into the Kobo Reporting Tool and submit supporting documentation for the Kobo Arc 7HD Valentine’s Day sale and for price protection on the Kobo Arc and Kobo Aura.

Since BTW arrived in inboxes last Thursday, the list of new stores opening in 2013 and new owners taking over existing businesses has been updated with two additional stores in each category.

The Texas Library Association will hold its annual conference in San Antonio from Tuesday, April 8, through Friday, April 11, immediately following the ABC Children’s Institute, and TLA has generously offered to extend its member rates on passes and programs to all ABA member booksellers.

Following last week’s announcement of Indies First Storytime Day, booksellers have begun inviting their favorite local authors to host an in-store storytime on the day of the event, May 17, 2014, to foster a celebration of the love of reading within their communities.

Registration for the ABC Children’s Institute, which will be held in San Antonio, Texas, on Sunday evening, April 6, and all day Monday, April 7, is now booked to capacity. Booksellers can add their names to a waiting list.

ABA has announced the booksellers who will be attending this April’s ABC Children’s Institute on scholarships, thanks to the support of Baker & Taylor, the event’s lead sponsor; 21 publisher sponsors; and the Book Industry Charitable Foundation.

Bookstores receiving grants last week in the first round of awards from author James Patterson are putting the funds to use in ways that both emphasize their role in their communities and underscore Patterson’s goal of promoting literacy.

World Book Night U.S. announced today that a special World Book Night edition of Solomon Northup’s Twelve Years a Slave will be made available to schools as part of this year’s April 23 celebration of reading.
