Although the two dozen graduates of last week's Paz & Associates workshop, "Opening a Bookstore: The Business Essentials," had a wide range of bookselling experience, or lack thereof, each found participation in the program an invaluable experience.
 Jon Bon Jovi and Amy Grant will headline this year's Book Industry Foundation Benefit at Town Hall in Manhattan during BookExpo America. Both performers will take the stage "unplugged," to entertain BEA's audience of booksellers and book industry professionals in an exclusive performance on Saturday, June 2.

This year's BookExpo America program for African-American book industry professionals, sponsored by the African-American Booksellers Committee, will be held on Thursday, May 31, at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center. Registration for the program, which is open to all BEA attendees, is not required.

This year, the American Booksellers Association's BookExpo America kickoff events, the Thursday Day of Education, and the Celebration of Bookselling will be held at Hotel ABA, the New York Marriott at the Brooklyn Bridge in Brooklyn, New York.
 The Book Sense Author Lunch -- a favorite at BookExpo America for six years running -- will be held on Friday, June 1, from 12:15 p.m. - 1:45 p.m. in the Special Events Hall at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center. The luncheon, open exclusively to stores with Book Sense, is a festive gathering of booksellers and 50 authors whose books they have made past or present Book Sense Picks.
 Discount tickets for Joan Didion's play, The Year of Magical Thinking, are available for booksellers attending BookExpo America, courtesy of Vintage Books. The play, which stars Vanessa Redgrave, is based on Didion's National Book Award-winning memoir of the same name. The Year of Magical Thinking, at Broadway's Booth Theatre, includes additional material based on events occurring after the book's publication.
