Binc’s assistance to booksellers on the rise; BEA adds keynote with author Walter Isaacson; Lambda names Outstanding Mid-Career Novelists and Emerging Writers; Deadline nears for National Book Awards submissions

Leading authors and illustrators of children’s books will show off their hidden talents in a variety show to be held during the Children’s Book Art Auction and Reception at BookExpo America on Wednesday evening, May 28.

The BEA schedule includes a range of sessions on the IndieCommerce upgrade from Drupal 6 to Drupal 7. Booksellers are encouraged to attend and to RSVP for planning purposes.

Three booksellers who participated in last month’s ABC Children’s Institute in San Antonio have been named the winners of scholarships covering a three-night stay at the Barnard College dormitory during BEA.

On Friday, May 30, at BEA, Carol Fitzgerald, president of ReadingGroupGuides.com, will emcee a speed-dating session designed to give booksellers, librarians, bloggers, and book group leaders a sneak peek at ideal book group picks from 19 publishers.

ABA programming at BookExpo America 2014 includes an opportunity for editors and booksellers to come together to discuss their respective roles in turning a manuscript into a book and getting it into the hands of readers.

ABA has a number of special events planned exclusively for member booksellers at BEA. Preregistration is required for each of these events. Don’t miss out: Deadlines are fast approaching and space is limited.

All ABA member booksellers at BookExpo America are invited to the Algonquin Buzzed Panel on Wednesday evening, May 28, at the Grand Hyatt New York’s Gallery on Lex.  The top-shelf evening will feature a whiskey tasting, hand-crafted beers, intoxicating appearances by Algonquin’s barrel-aged authors, and an off-kilter trivia contest.

The organizers of BookExpo America and BookCon are inviting booksellers from the NAIBA region to a preshow meeting with Steve Rosato and Brien McDonald, to be held in conjunction with the Booksellers Forum on Tuesday, April 29, at ABA’s office.

The 20th Annual Children’s Book Art Auction and Reception, on May 28 at BEA, will feature a special section of original artwork created to honor Dr. Seuss. Artists can submit works honoring Dr. Seuss until May 15.

In his bimonthly letter to members, ABA CEO Oren Teicher discusses topics raised at the recent Spring Forums and invites booksellers to take advantage of upcoming educational opportunities, including two new programs that provide booksellers with a chance to meet with publishers at BEA.

Penguin Random House is inviting all ABA member booksellers attending BEA 2014 to Hotel ABA, the Grand Hyatt New York, on Tuesday evening, May 27, for informal nightcaps.
