An Important Reminder

Though this weekend is a holiday weekend, the deadline for reporting to the Book Sense Bestseller List remains the same. It is still Monday at 3:00 a.m. EST. (That's midnight PT.) It is crucial that everybody report this weekend, as these lists will be spotlighted to the entire bookselling and publishing community at BookExpo America next week.

There will be no Book Sense Bestseller lists for the week of June 2.

Barefoot Books Fills Shoes With Champagne for 10th Anniversary

This year marks the 10th anniversary of Book Sense publisher partner and children's book publisher, Barefoot Books, the homegrown project of two mothers, Tessa Strickland and Nancy Traversy. With previous careers in publishing and management consulting, respectively, the two founded the company in the U.K. in 1993, publishing 10 cross-cultural picture books with no other staff.

Book Sense 76 Authors to Autograph at ABA Booth at BEA

The ABA/Book Sense Booth at this year's BookExpo America -- Booth #2921 -- will be the place to go for autographed books from some of independent booksellers' favorite authors. On Friday, May 29, and Saturday, May 30, authors whose works have appeared on the Book Sense 76 lists will be available to sign their books and meet booksellers. On both days, the signings will start at 10:00 a.m., and the last signing session will begin at 4:00 p.m.

Call for Photos for Summer Book Sense New Yorker Insert

The next special Book Sense feature in The New Yorker will appear in the July 14 issue, on sale July 7, and will highlight summer paperback reading. To complement the story, the magazine is once again seeking photographs of bookstores with Book Sense. All Book Sense stores are encouraged to send photographs of their stores, especially good exterior shots, by May 21.

Book Sense Mixing It Up With New BACARDI Mixers Promotion

Book Sense and The Minute Maid division of The Coca-Cola Company have teamed up to create an in-store Book Club Sweepstakes that aims to drive consumers participating in reading groups to independent bookstores with Book Sense. The national sweepstakes promotion, the BACARDI® Mixers & Book Sense Book Club Sweepstakes, will start in July and run for four months. It is expected that the promotions will drive traffic to Book Sense stores and raise awareness of the Book Sense brand.
