The deadline for bookstores to renew and update their membership in the American Booksellers Association for the year February 1, 2014 – January 31, 2015, is March 1.

In his first letter of the year to members, ABA CEO Oren Teicher offers booksellers an update on some of this spring’s educational and networking opportunities, and he encourages those who attended the Winter Institute to share their ideas for improving the event.

Daily Candy, an online resource for fashion, beauty, entertainment, food, and fun, has teamed with IndieBound to feature the full selection of bookseller-recommended titles from the Indie Next List each month.

Last week, ABA named three director candidates to stand for election this spring to three-year terms on the Board. Under the association’s Bylaws, bookstore members may submit petitions to have the names of additional director candidates put on the ballot.

This spring, from March 5 to April 30, ABA will be traveling around the country to meet with booksellers at a series of forum programs held in conjunction with the regional bookseller associations. All indie booksellers — ABA members and non-members alike — are invited to attend.

The American Booksellers Association’s Board of Directors met from January 19–20 in Seattle, just prior to the Winter Institute, and worked on a range of issues.

ABA’s Board of Directors has named three director candidates to stand for election to the Board. Under ABA’s Bylaws, bookstore members may submit  petitions to have additional candidates added to the ballot.

Registration for ABA’s 2014 Children’s Institute in San Antonio, Texas, is open, and booksellers are encouraged to sign up now to secure a spot at this all-day networking and educational event for children’s booksellers.

In his first letter of the year to members, ABA President Steve Bercu touches on a range of topics, from next week’s Winter Institute to the IndieCommerce move to Drupal 7.

Registration for ABA’s 2014 Children’s Institute in San Antonio, Texas, opens today to booksellers at all ABA member stores. The program includes a diverse array of educational programming, featured author talks, a children’s rep picks lunch, bookseller roundtables, and opening and closing receptions.

As the upgrade to Drupal 7 gets underway, IndieCommerce stores are urged to update their contact information to ensure they will receive targeted upgrade-specific communications that will keep them informed about each step of the process.

ABA members should look for their 2014 dues renewal notices to arrive via the USPS within the next several days. The membership year for all members is February 1, 2014 – January 31, 2015.
