The Winter Institute session “ABC Group Presents: Using Common Core to Develop Your Community Profile” delved into the expanding relationship between independent booksellers and local educators and highlighted ways they can work together and with publishers on Common Core issues.

Crown Business is offering booksellers the opportunity to send a free copy of Decisive, by Chip Heath and Dan Heath, to three local businesses. Before learning about the offer, Inklings Bookshop owner Susan Richmond gave, at the store’s expense, seven copies of Decisive to local city council members in Yakima, Washington. 

More than 500 ABA member booksellers, 59 publishing companies, 78 authors, dozens of service providers and other industry professionals, and almost 30 international guests from 12 countries took part in the American Booksellers Association’s ninth annual Winter Institute last week in Seattle. 

Small business owners have until February 9 to enter FedEx’s Small Business Grant Contest, with the opportunity to win a grant worth up to $25,000, and until February 25 to create a submission video for BizClips’ Small Business Video Contest, which will present the winner with $2,500 worth of products to make over their business.
