Video Player to Bring Miami Book Fair International to Bookstore Websites
Booksellers can share the excitement of the 31st Miami Book Fair International with their customers through their store websites by embedding an online video player that will stream Detroit Public Television’s (DPTV) coverage of panels, interviews, and on-the-street segments with a host of authors.
Coverage of the fair, including interviews and special segments with authors such as Judy Blume, Ann Patchett, Emma Straub, Richard Ford, and Walter Isaacson, will also be broadcast for the first time through PBS.org, PBS station websites, and WORLD Channel. The November 16 – 23 fair is presented by the Center for Writing and Literature @ Miami Dade College.
“We’re excited this year to partner with PBS to capture and share the authors and events of the Miami Book Fair International with readers everywhere, with three days of streaming video and on-demand video coverage that showcases the energy-driving book culture today,” said Miami Book Fair International chair and co-founder Mitch Kaplan, the owner of Books & Books.
“The streaming video content — interviews, panel discussion and more — is free to embed for use by any bookstore website and we hope will help readers discover a great new book or author. If you’re able, we hope you’ll consider embedding the free player on your own sites, or simply share the links to the PBS.org player using your social channels or e-mail lists.”
DPTV will provide live stream coverage of the fair from 4:00 to 9:00 p.m. on Friday, November 21; noon to 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 22; and noon to 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 23. Select segments will also be recorded during the fair and will be available on demand.
To feature either the Live Stream or On-Demand Player With Tabbed Playlist on a store website, booksellers will need to copy the appropriate player code, provided in the Word file here, and paste it into the source code of their chosen web page or block. When adding the code to a page or block, IndieCommerce users will need to first select “Rich Text Editing” from the Text format menu beneath the Body (or Block body) field, and then click the “Switch to plain text editor” link before pasting in the code for the player.
DPTV’s coverage of the fair will also be live-streamed on IndieBound.org.
On-demand coverage will be available to bookstores, on PBS.org, PBS station websites, and all PBS video apps, including those for iPhone, iPad, Xbox, Roku and Apple TV, as well as on YouTube. Additional 30-minute highlights of the fair will be broadcast on WORLD Channel at 6:30 p.m. on November 22, 23, and 24.
Coverage of Miami Book Fair International will be hosted by Jeffrey Brown, chief correspondent for arts, culture and society for PBS NewsHour, and Kelly Corrigan, author of Glitter and Glue and host of Medium’s Foreword. Additional segments will be presented by WPBT Miami host Kalyn Chapman James.
