With this fall’s promotion celebrating debut authors, ABA members will be able to introduce their customers to 22 of the best new writers for children and adults while taking advantage of publisher specials. A panel of booksellers selected the featured titles from dozens submitted by publishers in the categories of adult fiction and nonfiction and children’s books, all publishing between August and November 2013. The debut promotion has become such a hit that ABA is rechristening it “Indies Introduce” to echo what booksellers do best. Bookstores can sign up now and/or choose their titles before June 8. Signup is quick and easy.

For stores that are part of the spring Celebrate Debut Authors With Indies promotion, now is the time to choose the fall debut titles to feature in their stores. Stores that haven’t signed-up previously can go here, sign-up, and choose their titles all at the same time. When stores place their fall orders, they need only mention the promo code to take advantage of these debut specials. There is now a list of the fall debut titles on Edelweiss called “ABA Fall 2013 Debut Titles,” which  includes a link to the page on BookWeb where stores can choose their titles.

To participate, stores must agree to select a minimum of six titles that they will feature in in-store displays and newsletters, on their websites, and through social media. Weekly sales reporting to BookScan is required for some titles in the debut author promotions.

Keep an eye out at BookExpo America for “Indies Introduce” bookmarks featuring the titles on the both the adult and children’s lists and providing details on how to sign up for the program. Stop by the Ask ABA Desk in the Indie Bookseller Lounge (Room 2902 on the trade show floor) for more information and to pick up a bookmark. Bookmarks will also be available at participating publisher booths.

Electronic files for shelf-talkers, banners, title lists, and author videos to assist booksellers in their marketing efforts will be available under the Publisher Promotions section of the new BookWeb’s Designs and Downloads.

ABA bookseller members will be able to meet many of the fall debut authors at an autographing reception in the ABA Indie Bookseller Lounge at BookExpo America on Friday, May 31, at 4:45 p.m.

Questions about the Indies Introduce promotion should be addressed to Joy Dallanegra-Sanger, senior program officer, BSI Inc.
