The Southern California Booksellers Association's (SCBA) Authors Feast and Trade Show will be held on Saturday, October 21, at the Millennium Biltmore Hotel in Los Angeles. Among the day's highlights will be the 2006 Authors Feast, Spoken Word Radio Show Luncheon, and ABA educational programs "Shop Local: Forming Business Alliances in Your Community" and "Handselling: Customer Service With Results."

ABA's education sessions, which are free of charge and open to all SCBA attendees, will be presented by ABA CEO Avin Mark Domnitz and COO Oren Teicher. At "Shop Local," Teicher will be joined by bookseller Betsy Burton of the King's English in Salt Lake City. Burton is co-founder of the Salt Lake Vest Pocket Business Alliance (VPBA), an independent business alliance created to preserve the uniqueness and vitality of neighborhood-based businesses as an important stimulus to community identity and cohesiveness. Local First Utah, an outgrowth of VPBA, is a campaign that encourages consumers to patronize locally owned businesses.

Booksellers are encouraged to stop by the ABA booth at the show to learn about ABA programs and products and services, such as the Winter Institute, Book Sense, the Book Buyer's Handbook, Constant Contact and more. Input gathered at the show will help formulate ABA's next Strategic Plan.

ABA members who drop off a business card at the booth will be eligible to win prizes. In a random drawing, ABA will award a color inkjet printer. The printer winner will then be entered into a grand prize drawing to win airfare to, and up to a three-night hotel stay at, the Winter Institute. In addition, ABA members will also have a chance to win up to a four-night stay at Hotel ABA in Brooklyn for BookExpo America 2007 in New York City, compliments of BEA.
