Rolling Stone & MTV Ask for Help Finding Aspiring Writers

Rolling Stone magazine, in conjunction with MTV, is looking for aspiring writers, and they're looking for them at independent bookstores.

This summer, a group of aspiring journalists will be chosen to work as staff writers, in full-time paid positions, at Rolling Stone magazine's New York offices. MTV will create a reality television show by filming their experiences. Working with the magazine's top editors, the participating writers will hone their skills and secure interviews with major musicians, actors, and politicians. The participants will have a shot at a yearlong writing contract with the magazine at the end of the three months.

Now, MTV is asking independent booksellers to help scout out writing talent by posting a flier, publicizing the search, in their stores. "We want to reach out to independent-minded young writers," said Michelle Chihara of MTV casting. "Where better to find them?"

Applicants must be 18 years old by June 9. The application, including writing samples and a short videotape, must be received by April 21. To download a flier, click here. To learn more about the Rolling Stone/MTV show, visit the Casting Call on the Rolling Stone website. --Karen Schechner
