Join ABA’s Advocacy Team at the Antitrust Symposium in Washington, D.C., During Wi15
- By Molly Bond
Booksellers should save the date for Tuesday, January 21, when the American Booksellers Association will present an Antitrust Symposium in Washington, D.C., in conjunction with ABA’s 2020 Winter Institute in Baltimore.
With lawmakers and regulators now investigating whether Big Tech companies, including Amazon, are in violation of antitrust laws, this is an extremely timely panel discussion. Following the panel, booksellers will have an opportunity to meet with lawmakers to discuss antitrust and other issues impacting their businesses.
Registration for the symposium will open on Tuesday, October 29, and the cost will be $25 per attendee.
The panel will look at the growing monopoly power in the retailing and tech sector, with a focus on the extraordinary market dominance of Amazon. Among other speakers, the panel will feature:
- Matt Stoller, author of Goliath: The 100-Year War Between Monopoly Power and Democracy (Simon & Schuster)
- Barry Lynn, executive director of Open Markets Institute and author of Cornered: The New Monopoly Capitalism and the Economics of Destruction (Wiley)
- Stacy Mitchell, co-director of the Institute for Local Self-Reliance
Registration for this event is required. Questions about the event can be directed to ABA Advocacy and Public Policy Coordinator Molly Bond at [email protected]. Booksellers interested in attending the symposium should be sure to register starting October 29 and plan their travel accordingly. Lunch will be served at the symposium.
