The American Booksellers Association launched the Indie Next List “Years of Discovery” Campaign last week to celebrate more than a decade and a half of passionate handselling by ABA member booksellers that is responsible for introducing countless customers to their next great reads as well as undiscovered gems.

There are several elements to the campaign, including a few improvements to the Indie Next List (INL) flier: Beginning with the June 2016 list, the flier’s front page will feature a space where booksellers can brand it with their store name and/or logo. The flier will also include three additional “Now in Paperback” titles, for a total of nine.

On the June, July, and August Indie Next List fliers, customers will also find a coupon to enter a sweepstakes to win all 20 of the month’s next great reads.

Sweepstakes coupons from the June Indie Next List will be accepted from May 15 through July 15, 2016, from ABA member store customers over the age of 13. The winner will be chosen at random and notified on or around August 1, 2016. Odds of winning will depend upon the total number of eligible entries received. The approximate retail value of the June INL prize is $550. Complete sweepstakes rules are available here.

The “Years of Discovery” Campaign also offers incentives for ABA member booksellers: Stores that mount Indie Next List displays each month for five months — May, June, July, August, and September — and post a photo each month to Facebook, Twitter, and/or Instagram will automatically be entitled to bring an additional person, above the standard three booksellers per member company, to Winter Institute 2017.

From those stores, 10 will be chosen to win a complimentary registration fee (approximately a $99 value) to Winter Institute 2017. Eligibility and entry requirements for the bookstore display contest are available here.

Booksellers should also watch BTW for announcements about special Indie Next List events at Winter Institute 2017 in Minneapolis. Plans are currently in the works for a session featuring past INL authors as well as for appearances by “Revisit & Rediscover” authors at the second annual Backlist Book Swap Party.

Booksellers with questions about the display contest and social media entries should contact ABA Social Media Manager Catherine Cusick.

Questions about the INL Years of Discovery Campaign should be addressed to Senior Program Officer Joy Dallanegra-Sanger or Development Officer Mark Nichols.
