There's still time for ABA member booksellers who will be in Los Angeles on Wednesday afternoon, May 28, to sign up for a unique, behind-the-scenes walking tour of Hollywood with a decidedly literary slant.

Red Line Tours, which treats the city as a vast living museum, will outfit booksellers with audio receivers, much like the kind used on a museum tours, and a guide will offer commentary via a microphone transmitter as the tour travels through the heart of Hollywood and into some of its most storied landmarks. Red Line has customized its most popular tour just for ABA members to include sites of literary significance, including the settings for novels by Raymond Chandler, Dorothy Parker, and Nathanael West.

Among other stops on the tour are the historic Walk of Fame, the Hollywood sign, the Kodak Theatre, Grauman's Chinese Theater, and the El Capitan Theatre, where stars such as Clark Gable and Fred Astaire were discovered and where the movie Citizen Kane premiered.

The tour will end at the famed Egyptian Theatre, for the "Welcome to Hollywood" Author Reception, sponsored by ABA and the Southern California Independent Booksellers Association.

ABA members are urged to sign up for the Red Line tour today. To make a reservation, e-mail [email protected]; fax (323) 402-1074; or call (323) 402-1074, ext. 11. The tour price is $16 to ABA member booksellers.

The list of things to do and see in L.A. is endless, so ABA has also created a suggested list of alternative activities.
