The fourth ABC Children’s Institute will kick off in June with a children’s book-themed Backlist Book Swap; 16 new authors have been added to the Author Reception; and March 31 marks the deadline for scholarship applications. 

Heidi Heilig is the author of The Girl From Everywhere, a Winter/Spring Indies Introduce debut for young adults and Spring Kids’ Indie Next List pick. Alyssa Raymond of Boulder Book Store said the novel is “magical, diverse, and intricately plotted.”

Reservations are now open to ABA members for the Celebration of Bookselling and Author Awards Lunch; Publicists Speed Dating; and the ABC and CBC’s Speed Dating Lunch With Children’s Authors and Tea With Children’s Authors and Illustrators.

Through March 31, every bookseller registration for Children’s Institute received from an ABC Children’s Group member store will be entered into a drawing to win one of three prizes from the event’s keynote speakers.

At Winter Institute 11, an education session presented by the ABC Group at ABA looked at the special challenges that booksellers face in managing inventory for young readers’ series in both general interest and children’s bookstores. 

Underwater by Marisa Reichardt, a Winter/Spring Indies Introduce debut title for young adults and a Winter Kids’ Indie Next List pick, “is a true beauty on all counts,” said Will Walton of Avid Bookshop.

Gavriel Savit is the author of Anna and the Swallow Man, a Winter/Spring 2016 Indies Introduce debut title for young adults. Sara Grochowski of Brilliant Books called the novel “an affecting story that readers won’t soon forget.”

At a Winter Institute education session presented by the ABC Children’s Group, a panel of booksellers and publishers offered tips for repurposing advance reading copies to generate sales while staying within publishers’ guidelines for sharing ARCs.

Children and teens are invited to submit their votes for the ninth annual Children’s & Teen Choice Book Awards through April 25.

Booksellers who don’t want to miss the 2016 ABC Children’s Institute’s six keynote and plenary talks, 10 brand-new education sessions, 30-plus authors, rep picks speed dating, and more should register as soon as possible.

Thirty-four general bookstores and 11 children’s specialty stores have been nominated for the Women’s National Book Association’s 2016 WNBA Pannell Awards.

Booksellers are invited to participate in a display contest in celebration of the 97th annual Children’s Book Week (May 2 to 8). Bonus points will be awarded to stores incorporating the 2016 Children’s Book Week poster.
