The American Booksellers Association's Nominating Committee, chaired by Collette Morgan of Wild Rumpus in Minneapolis, is searching for qualified candidates to serve on the ABA Board of Directors.

The Mountains & Plains Independent Booksellers Association (MPIBA) will welcome stores from Texas and Oklahoma (previously members of the disbanded Mid-South Independent Booksellers Association) to its Fall Trade Show, to be held from Thursday, September 14, through Sunday, September 17, at the Marriott Denver Tech Center in Denver.

The American Booksellers Association and Reed Exhibitions today announced several key details about BookExpo America 2007, which will be held at New York City's Jacob Javits Convention Center from Friday, June 1, through Sunday, June 3.

The 2006 Southern Independent Booksellers Alliance (SIBA) Fall Trade Show, which will be held from Thursday, September 7, through Sunday, September 10, in Orlando, Florida, at the Gaylord Palms Resort & Convention Center, will feature an array of educational offerings and author events.

The American Booksellers Association is asking the owners and staff of all member stores to participate in its 2006 Education Survey. The results of the survey will provide guidance to the bookseller volunteers on ABA's Education Task Force as they begin formulating plans for the association's 2007 education offerings.

The owners and staff of ABA member stores who visit the American Booksellers Association booth at any of the nine regional association fall trade shows will have the chance to win prizes, compliments of ABA and BookExpo America (BEA). In a random drawing at each show, ABA will award a color inkjet printer. The nine printer winners will then be entered into a grand prize drawing to win airfare to, and up to a three-night hotel stay at, the association's 2007 Winter Institute.

The American Booksellers Association will reprise its very popular Hotel ABA, in conjunction with BookExpo America 2007 in New York City, at a location in downtown Brooklyn, close to the Brooklyn Bridge.

Building on the success of this past January's inaugural event, the American Booksellers Association has announced plans to hold its Second Annual Winter Institute on Thursday and Friday, February 1 and 2, 2007, in Portland, Oregon.

The 2007 Winter Institute will once again feature two full days of free educational programming for the owners and staff of ABA member stores, special events, and meal functions, as well as hotel accommodations at a great price.

The American Booksellers Association's Board of Directors held its summer meeting in Essex, Vermont, from Thursday, July 6, through Sunday, July 9. The meeting began in the late afternoon on Thursday with an orientation to introduce new Board members Becky Anderson of Anderson's Bookshops in Naperville, Illinois, and Beth Puffer of Bank Street Bookstore in New York City to the association's policies and procedures.

In May, the American Booksellers Association launched "ABA Education Programs Online," a new benefit that provides member booksellers with access to streaming video of select ABA education programming through the association's trade website, BookWeb.org. Booksellers who have used the videos describe them as a highly effective and affordable way to bring educational programming to all staff members.
