Idea Exchange This Week

The Education Forum on BookWeb's Idea Exchange was recently created to give ABA member booksellers an opportunity to learn and share thoughts and experiences, ask questions, and offer suggestions and tips on the material presented in ABA's various education programs, including "The 2% Solution." The forum is intended for bookseller-to-bookseller interaction, though ABA staff does moderate the postings and respond to questions when appropriate.

O, The Oprah Magazine Announces First-Ever Book Series

Hearst Magazines, one of the largest publishers of monthly magazines, and Oxmoor House, a book publishing division of Southern Progress Corporation, announced a partnership to create and publish an annual series of hardcover books based on O, The Oprah Magazine's editorial content. The first book, Live Your Best Life: A Treasury of Wisdom, Wit, Advice, Interviews, and Inspiration From O, The Oprah Magazine, will be available September 2005.

Streamlined Sales Tax Round-Up

On April 16, at a meeting in Washington, D.C., delegates of the Streamlined Sales Tax Implementing States (SSTIS) agreed to amend some portions of the Streamlined Sales and Use Tax Agreement (SSUTA) in an effort to keep sales tax simplification on schedule for October 1, as reported by Washington Retail Insight (WRI), a newsletter of the National Retail Federation. SSUTA would help states begin to recover from years of budgetary shortfalls by collecting revenue lost through catalog and Internet purchases.
