Uniting to Read the World

The first annual "Reading the World: Independent Booksellers Unite to Promote Literature in Translation" will be held this May. Reading the World is a month-long event created by publishers and independent booksellers to help promote international literature in translation. "In 2004, 185,000 titles were published," said Shaman Drum Bookshop's Karl Pohrt, one of the event's organizers. "Of these, 874 were adult literature in translation. Nothing more needs to be said about the need for this project beyond that."

Free Classified Ads Now Available to ABA Bookstore Members

All Regular ABA Member Bookstores in good standing may now place up to four free 2-week Classified Ad insertions in Bookselling This Week each year. Each ad can be up to 50 words. Bookstore members can also place additional Classified Ads at a 25 percent discount off the regular rate of $20 per seven words (28-word minimum). Ads will appear for a period of two weeks on BTW's "Classifieds" webpage, as well as in the full print-on-demand edition of BTW.
