BookExpo America Thinks Global

BookExpo America (BEA) announced this week that this year's BEA, which will run from June 1 - 3 at the Javits Convention Center in New York City, will focus on, among other topics, the growing influence and spread of English language books in the global market. BEA will offer a new BEA Global Market Forum, which will explore the expansion of English reading worldwide.

March Workshop Features the Essentials of Opening a Bookstore

Registration is now open for the weeklong workshop, "Opening a Bookstore: The Business Essentials," which will be held on Amelia Island, Florida, from Monday, March 19, to Friday, March 23, 2007. The comprehensive workshop is given by Donna Paz Kaufman and Mark Kaufman of the Bookstore Training and Consulting Group of Paz & Associates and is co-sponsored by ABA.

South Florida Spellbound by New Bookstore

Dennise Sleeper of Spellbound Books & Gifts in Homestead, Florida, described the store's soft opening on December 21 as "quiet." At the grand opening, however, which took place one month later, the 3,250-square-foot general bookstore was so packed "there was hardly room to turn around."

2007 Book Sense Book of the Year Voting Underway

Voting for the 2007 Book Sense Book of the Year Awards is now open to the owners and staff of all ABA member bookstores. The ballot features titles in the categories of Adult Fiction, Adult Nonfiction, Children's Literature, and Children's Illustrated that appeared on 2006 Book Sense Picks lists, as well as space for write-ins in each category. Only books published in 2006 are eligible.
