ABA CEO on Panel at Miami Book Fair International
American Booksellers Association CEO Oren Teicher will take part in the panel “Do Monsters Live in Our Laptops? The Dangers of Amazon and Other Monopolies” on Sunday, November 23, at the 31st Miami Book Fair International. Other participants in the panel discussion to be moderated by the Copyright Clearing Center’s Christopher Kenneally will be Publishers Weekly senior writer Andrew Albanese, New Republic editor Franklin Foer, and author Astra Taylor (The People’s Platform, Macmillan).
Beginning at 3:30 p.m. in the Chapman Conference Center (Building 3, 2nd Floor, Room 3210, on Miami Dade College’s Wolfson Campus), the panel discussion will explore the dangers to both artistic freedom and a diverse culture in a world dominated by gatekeepers such as Amazon, Apple, Facebook, and Google. A lively discussion about local and global threats to book culture, authentic media, free speech, copyright laws, and independent scholarship is expected.
The 2014 Miami Book Fair International runs from November 16 – 23, with a street fair from November 21 – 23. The fair is presented and produced by the Center for Writing and Literature @ Miami Dade College.
This year, for the first time, booksellers can share the excitement of the fair with their customers via a video player that will live stream Detroit Public Television’s coverage of panels, interviews, and on-the street segments with a host of authors. (Learn more.)
