In September, ABA’s Britt Camacho took part in the [margins.] Literary Conference and Book Festival! [margins.] 2024 celebrated diverse storytellers, readers, and literary community in Denver, Colorado, and around the globe.

Britt spoke to her role as ABA’s DEIA & Communications Senior Copy Editor and her editorial ethos across the literary conference. She participated in panels on the role of diversity readers in publishing and how to define and maintain healthy practices as an editor.

The literary conference’s theme for 2024, Reclamation, was central in a discussion on creativity and storytelling under book bans. Britt joined Deidre Dumpson, Director of Client Success at Edelweiss, and Diana Dominguez, owner of Más Libritos Bookstore, in a nuanced conversation on how book bans impact work at all stages of the creative process and how to resist censorship on the page and out in community.

At the book festival, members of the Denver public stopped by the ABA table to learn about Banned Books Week, The ABA Right to Read Handbook, and how to Get Out The Vote this November. In honor of Banned Books Week, Britt sat on a panel with Rick Griffith and Debra Johnson, co-owners of The Shop At MATTER, in a community conversation on the right to read and fighting book bans.

[margins.] is a gathering of The Word | A Storytelling Sanctuary and is part of their work to uplift diverse stories from the margins.
