The owners and staff at ABA member bookstores that complete the ABACUS-11 Survey before the August 15 deadline are eligible to apply for the Avin Mark Domnitz Scholarship to Winter Institute 8.  This is the fourth year that ABA will award a scholarship in honor of the association’s former CEO, who was instrumental in developing financial education for indie booksellers.

Winter Institute 8 will be held in Kansas City, Missouri, from Saturday, February 23, through Monday, February 25, 2013, with an opening reception on the evening of the 22nd. The scholarship will cover travel expenses up to $350,  up to four nights’ accommodations at the Wi8 host hotel, and the $75 event meal fee.

Stores were sent an ABACUS-11 reminder e-mail last week from information analyst Martha Love of the National Association of College Stores’ (NACS) OnCampus Research. The e-mail includes information on how to participate in the survey, a link to the secure and confidential electronic form, and the bookstore’s survey I.D. number.

All stores participating in the ABACUS-11 will receive a free customized report analyzing their financial results, including comparisons with other businesses based on multiple criteria (such as sales level, store size, and community type) in addition to year-to-year trending information.

Questions about submitting data to the survey should be addressed to Love at OnCampus Research via e-mail or at (800) 622-7498, ext. 2448; general questions about ABACUS should addressed to ABA Content Officer Dan Cullen via e-mail or at (800) 637-0037 ext. 6660.

ABACUS participants can apply for the Domnitz Scholarship by sending an e-mail with “Domnitz Scholarship” in the subject line to ABA Education Manager Lisa Winn. The e-mail should include the applicant’s name, staff title, store name, and store contact information.
