Winter Institute: Dates of Note

Winter Institute 11 will be held in Denver, Colorado, from Saturday evening, January 23, through Tuesday, January 26, 2016, but between now and then there are few dates that registered booksellers should keep in mind:

• On Saturday, January 23, prior to Wi11’s opening evening reception, ABA is offering full- and half-day tours to Denver-area bookstores; reservations for the tours open on Thursday, November 12.

  Full-day tours will include bookstores in Denver and Boulder; the cost, which covers transportation, is $25 per person. Half-day tours will visit stores in Denver; the cost is $15 per person

• November 12 is also the date that registration opens for the Winter Institute’s four Advance Learning sessions for owners and managers. Sessions include “Human Resources Essentials for Bookstores,” “Advanced Topics in Human Resources,” “The Open-Book Management Method and the Bookstore,” and “Effective Leadership for the Retail Setting.”

  These are ticketed events with limited capacity; registration is open to bookstore owners and managers only and sessions will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis.

• A post-Winter Institute ski trip to the Copper Mountain Resort (75 miles west of Denver) is planned for Wednesday, January 27. Reservations are open now to ABA members and their families; however, the association reserves the right to cancel the trip by November 13 if the bus is not filled, so don’t delay. Make your reservations now.

  The price of $130 per person includes lift tickets and round-trip bus transportation from the Sheraton Denver Downtown to Copper Mountain. An equipment rental discount code and rental instructions will be provided to confirmed guests via e-mail prior to the trip. (Meals are not included.)

As there are now waiting lists for both Winter Institute registration and reservations at the host hotel, the Sheraton Denver Downtown, ABA is asking registrants whose plans have changed to contact the association directly as soon as possible so people on the waitlists can take their places.

Booksellers who are no longer planning to attend the institute are asked to notify ABA’s Winter Institute team as soon as possible.

All Wi11 registrants who wish to cancel hotel reservations or to have their names removed from the waitlist should contact ABA Meetings & Planning Officer Jill Perlstein.

Booksellers on the waitlists will be notified on a first-come, first-served basis if cancellations are received.
