Registration for the American Booksellers Association's Third Annual Winter Institute (Wi3) began on Thursday, August 30. The jam-packed education event, which is free and open exclusively to ABA bookstore and provisional members, will be held from Thursday evening, January 24, to Saturday evening, January 26, 2008, in Louisville, Kentucky. A "Bookseller Cafe" on Sunday morning will offer an additional opportunity for open-ended, moderated discussions among booksellers.

Wi3 registration, which is limited to 500 booksellers on a first-come, first-served basis, is via a web form on ABA's trade website, BookWeb.org. The event registration deadline is Friday, November 16.

The host hotel for the 2008 Winter Institute is the Louisville Marriott Downtown, where ABA has negotiated a special rate for members starting at $109 per night, available from January 22 through January 29. All hotel reservations must be made through the hotel.

Education sessions and special events, which include most meals, fill the two-day event, so ABA is encouraging booksellers to arrive in Louisville on Thursday afternoon, January 24.

Many airlines fly into Louisville, including Southwest Airlines, which often offers discounted fares, and Continental Airlines, which has provided special codes that enable ABA members to receive additional discounts. (For details, visit www.bookweb.org/events/institute.)
