Wanted: September Picks and Banned Books

Printer-friendly versionPrinter-friendly version

Here's a quick reminder of two upcoming Book Sense Picks deadlines:

  • Friday, July 8, is the deadline for the September Book Sense Picks List, and
  • Friday, July 15, is the deadline for the Book Sense Banned Books Top Ten.

The September Picks list is a significant one -- with many notable titles scheduled -- and the Banned Books Top Ten was a very popular addition to the Picks line-up last year.

Please nominate titles that you are looking forward to handselling to your customers so that these lists can be as strong as possible. Send all nominations to Book Sense Picks Editor-in-Chief Dan Cullen at [email protected] or through the online form at www.bookweb.org/read/6305.

This will be the second year for the Banned Books list, which is timed to coincide with Banned Books Week, scheduled this year from September 24 - October 1. The list aims to highlight outstanding titles (both for adults and for children) that have been banned or challenged in bookstores and/or libraries. (The American Library Association's website, www.ala.org, provides a lot of helpful information about banned and challenged books, including ALA's "Challenged/Banned Books" webpage.)

You can nominate either hardcover or paperback titles for either of these lists. If you're looking forward to handselling a particular title in paperback, please, don't hesitate to nominate it for the Picks list.

Many thanks for all you do for Book Sense.
