The Pulitzer Prize-winning Middlesex by Jeffrey Eugenides (Picador) is the 58th pick of the Oprah Book Club. The announcement was made on the Oprah TV show and via the Oprah website on Tuesday, June 5.

A pick on both the September/October 2002 Book Sense 76 and a Book Sense 2006 - 2007 Reading Group Picks lists, Middlesex is the story of Calliope Stephanides and three generations of the Greek-American Stephanides family who travel from a small village overlooking Mount Olympus to Prohibition-era Detroit.

In nominating Middlesex for the Book Sense Reading Group Picks list, Cindy Collins, of The Reading Grounds, in Omaha, Nebraska, noted: "This story of Calliope Stephanides and three generations of the Greek-American Stephanides family is the kind of book you tell everyone about after you've read it. Some of our customers have read it over and over again."
