An Invitation to Share Your Thoughts on Diversity

The lack of diversity in the book industry — from the paucity of titles reflecting the diverse makeup of our culture to the limited involvement of minorities in the bookselling and publishing communities — is a matter of grave concern to the American Booksellers Association.

Among the steps that ABA has taken to promote more discussion about diversity is to encourage booksellers and others in the industry to share their thoughts on what can be done to increase diversity in both the books available for sale at ABA member stores and within the community of booksellers itself.

Bookselling This Week recently featured personal perspectives on diversity by Jenny Cayabyab Cohen of Waucoma Bookstore in Hood River, Oregon, and Erica Luttrell of Chevalier’s Books in Los Angeles, California. We encourage other booksellers to share their thoughts on the challenge of increasing diversity in the book industry and what more ABA can do. If you are interested in sharing your thoughts in BTW, please let us know.
