HarperCollins Publishers recently launched a new promotion, "Harper Celebrates Six Years of Book Sense Selections." Between September 15 and November 3, 2006, retail accounts may earn an extra discount to promote select Harper titles that have appeared on the Book Sense lists.

Jeanette Zwart, vice president of field sales for HarperCollins told BTW via e-mail that the publisher has always been a strong supporter of the Book Sense program, since its very beginning, and a promotion celebrating this relationship only seemed natural. "When looking over the body of titles selected over that time," said Zwart, "it struck us again that these titles have formed some of the strongest backlist titles for our list, and, I trust, for our stores as well. It made sense to figure out a way to reward independents for their support of these titles. I think it's the first time a publisher has offered a promotion of this scope on Book Sense titles."

To participate, a bookseller's promotion must run for a minimum of two weeks, between September 15 and November 3, 2006. In return, stores will receive an additional five percent discount and free freight when ordering the titles for feature placement promotion.

The offer is good for one order between September 7 and November 3, 2006, and accounts must order a minimum of 25 adult units or 25 children's units or 50 combined units. HarperCollins will provide Book Sense signage for feature placement promotions.

Stores with Book Sense should look for the list of qualifying titles in the October Red Box. HarperCollins is also highlighting the promotion at the regional trade shows, and, said Zwart, "Reps are discussing it with their accounts as they make their sales calls, or by e-mailing the information and following up."
