This year's Book Sense Reading Room at BookExpo America will feature four of independent booksellers' favorite authors, including two Book Sense Book of the Year winners. All BEA attendees are invited to end a long day on the trade show floor on Saturday, June 4, in the Reading Room (Room 1C 03 at the Javits Convention Center), where these four outstanding authors will read from, and speak about, their books in a relaxed setting:

  • Blue Balliett, author of Chasing Vermeer (Scholastic), the 2005 Book Sense Book of the Year Children's Literature winner and a 2004 Summer Kids' Pick

  • Susanna Clarke, author of Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell (Bloomsbury), the 2005 Book Sense Book of the Year Fiction winner and a September 2004 Pick

  • Betsy Burton, author of The King's English: Adventures of an Independent Bookseller (Gibbs-Smith), an April 2005 Pick

  • A.J. Jacobs, The Know It All: One Man's Humble Quest to Be the Smartest Person in the World (Simon & Schuster), an October 2004 Pick

"The Reading Room is always a bookseller favorite," said Mark Nichols, director of Book Sense Marketing. "It's a wonderful segue from the busyness of the trade show floor to the events of the evening, and this year we have a particularly notable group of authors participating. It promises to be a memorable occasion."

Readings will take place from 4:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. on Saturday.
