First-Time Indie Next List Blurbers Can Win Two Free Nights at BEA 2017

As part of its ongoing Indie Next List Years of Discovery Campaign, the American Booksellers Association is offering members who have never submitted a blurb to the Indie Next Lists a chance to win two free hotel nights at BookExpo America 2017 in New York City. First-time blurbers who submit a recommendation to the December 2016 and/or January 2017 List will be entered into a drawing for two free hotel nights for the May 30–June 2, 2017, trade show at the Jacob Javits Convention Center.

The deadline for December Indie Next List recommendations has passed, but booksellers still have time to submit to the January 2017 list.

To enter the drawing, booksellers should e-mail blurbs to [email protected] by November 4 for the January Indie Next List.

Tips for Nominating Titles to the Indie Next List

  • Write conversationally, just as if you were talking about a favorite title with a customer in the store.
  • Don’t be intimidated by the quotes you’ve seen on past Indie Next Lists; they’ve all been edited.
  • Consider the blurbs you’re writing for your store’s staff picks cards, your newsletter, or website to see if one or more might be appropriate Indie Next List recommendations.
  • Blurbs for titles in all fiction and nonfiction categories are welcome.
  • Remind other staff members who may never have submitted a blurb to submit one, too.
