Participants in next month’s Winter Institute 7 in New Orleans will have an opportunity to support the free speech rights of children and young readers by bidding on a dozen original pieces of children’s art by some of the book industry’s top artists and illustrators.

The American Booksellers Foundation for Free Expression (ABFFE), the bookseller’s voice in the fight against censorship, will conduct a silent auction during the author reception on Thursday, January 19, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

“We thought an auction would add to the fun at Winter Institute so we set aside some great pieces from the art that we sold during BookExpo America and Banned Books Week,” ABFFE President Chris Finan said.

The auction will include art by Graeme Base, Bruce Degen, Angelina Dominquez, Holly Keller, Steven Kellogg, Sylvia Long, Dave Roman, Melissa Sweet, Matt Tavares, Jane Wattenberg and Rosemary Wells. (Preview the pieces here.)
