The Publishing Triangle's 18th Annual Triangle Awards to Be Presented May 11

The 18th Annual Triangle Awards, honoring the best lesbian and gay fiction, nonfiction, and poetry published in 2005, will be presented on May 11 at the Tishman Auditorium of the New School for Social Research (66 West 12th Street) from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Sponsored by HarperCollins, the ceremony is free and open to the public, with a reception to follow.

Karla Jay is the 2006 recipient of the Publishing Triangle's Bill Whitehead Award for Lifetime Achievement, named in honor of an esteemed editor. She has written, edited, co-edited, and translated 10 books, including Out of the Closets: Voices of Gay Liberation; Lesbian Texts and Contexts: Radical Revisions; Dyke Life; and, her most recent work, Tales of the Lavender Menace: A Memoir of Liberation. In addition, the Publishing Triangle will present a special Leadership Award to the Oscar Wilde Bookshop, the longtime independent bookstore in New York City's Greenwich Village.

Taxware Certified by Streamlined Sales Tax Governing Board


On April 21, Taxware, a provider of global transaction tax calculation and compliance solutions and a First Data Corp. company, announced that it has been certified by the Streamlined Sales Tax Governing Board as a Certified Service Provider (CSP). Businesses that use Taxware's certified solution to comply with sales tax collection obligations will now enjoy certain audit and liability protections from the states that have certified the company. In a press release, Taxware noted that its software would calculate, collect, report, and remit liabilities on their behalf using remotely accessed certified software.

Under the terms of the contract between Taxware and the Streamlined Sales Tax Governing Board, Inc., in this outsourced CSP deployment a volunteer seller that does not have a requirement to collect tax will receive this service free of charge, as the states will compensate the CSP for this service. This certified offering interfaces with such financial, accounting, and ERP systems as SAP, Oracle, and Oracle's PeopleSoft, offering a new level of audit and liability protection to users of those systems.


A Season of Fire and Ice Now Expected to Land May 5

Due to printing problems, the May Book Sense Pick A Season of Fire and Ice: A Novel by Lloyd Zimpel (Unbridled) is not expected to land in bookstores until Friday, May 5.
