Doctorow Wins Pen/Faulkner Award

On Tuesday, February 21, the PEN/Faulkner Foundation announced that E.L. Doctorow was the winner of its 2006 fiction award for The March (Random House). It is the second time Doctorow has won the PEN/Faulkner award. More than 350 American novels and short story collections were submitted for the award, which includes a prize of $15,000. Doctorow will be honored at the PEN/Faulkner Awards at the Folger Shakespeare Library in Washington, D.C., on May 6.


Former Bookseller to Foster Fulcrum's Relationship With Independents

As reported in Shelf Awareness, Colorado's Fulcrum Publishing has hired Tattered Cover's Highlands Ranch store manager Margaret Shaheen to oversee the revamping of its sales and marketing campaigns with the goal of strengthening relationships with independent booksellers. Shaheen will focus on "building relationships, getting the word out and putting a lot of effort into making sure that we're doing the right thing as a publisher to make sure booksellers are growing and being successful," Fulcrum Vice President Mike Dyer told Shelf Awareness.
