New and prospective booksellers who want to participate in the Booksellers School sponsored by the American Booksellers Association and facilitated by Paz & Associates at this year's Hotel ABA should register for the four-day program as soon as possible and book a hotel room now.

The school will be held from Tuesday, May 29, to Friday, June 1, at the New York Marriott at the Brooklyn Bridge in Brooklyn, the exclusive hotel for ABA member booksellers attending BookExpo America at New York City's Jacob K. Javits Convention Center. Pre-registration for the workshop, which is capped at 65 attendees, is required. In addition, time is running out for those who want to take advantage of Hotel ABA's special rate of $159 per night; rooms at the ABA member rate are almost completely sold out. (Hotel ABA registration is via BookWeb.org; non-ABA members can register for other trade show hotels at www.bookexpoamerica.com.)

Tuition for the Booksellers School -- $500 per person for ABA members and $800 per person for non-members -- includes one copy of Opening a Bookstore: The Essential Planning Guide, registration for BEA, and a number of free events.

The course is ideal for anyone who is contemplating opening, buying, or investing in a bookstore. It is also appropriate for industry professionals who seek a better understanding of book retailing.

Participants will learn about all aspects of bookselling through intensive educational sessions and by networking with booksellers and publishers at ABA special events, including the association's annual Celebration of Bookselling. On Thursday, May 31, Booksellers School participants will join seasoned booksellers at the association's full day of education, and on Friday, June 1, the action moves to the Javits Center, where students will walk the trade show floor and attend final workshop classes.

Non-members who would like to join the association to receive preferred rates for the Booksellers School and for Hotel ABA can do so via an online application form at BookWeb.org.
