The American Booksellers Association has signed on to be the primary sponsor for the Book Industry Charitable Foundation’s first-ever benefit concert. The Sips & Songs Concert will be held on June 8 at Woodruff’s in Ypsilanti, Michigan’s historic Depot Town. Fourteen of southeastern Michigan’s leading singer/songwriters will perform at the show, emceed by Matthew Altruda of Ann Arbor’s 107.1FM.

Tickets are $40 per person ($30 is tax deductible) and include a drink ticket, snacks, and a silent auction. There are also a limited number of $100 VIP tickets, which include preferred seating at the concert and a pre-concert dinner with local Ann Arbor author Steve Amick.

Tickets can be purchased online from the Binc Foundation or in-person at Literati Bookstore or Nicola’s Books, both in Ann Arbor.

All proceeds will benefit the programs of the Binc, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to assisting bookstore employees in times of personal financial crisis since 1996. Binc began in 1996 as the Borders Foundation with the purpose of helping Borders employees in need. Following the bankruptcy of Borders in 2011, the foundation expanded its mission and changed its name in recognition of its new focus as an industry-wide entity. In October 2012, the ABA joined with Binc to offer a financial assistance program for employees of independent bookstores who are experiencing an emergency financial hardship.
