Next Friday, February 28, is the last day to apply for the Book Industry Charitable Foundation (Binc)’s newly expanded Scholarship Program for the 2014–2015 academic year. The program will award up to $198,500 in higher education scholarships to current bookstore employees, owners, and their dependents and former Borders Group employees and their dependents.

Two scholarships of $10,000 and up to 51 scholarships of $3,500 each will be awarded for full- or part-time study at an accredited institution of the student’s choice.  As part of the expanded program, awards may be used for tuition, fees, books, supplies, and room and board over consecutive years if a student is not able to use the entire award for the 2014–2015 academic year.

The evaluation process, overseen by Scholarship America (Scholarship Management Services), will consider financial need, prior academic achievement, leadership capabilities, participation in school and community activities, work experience, and career aspirations.
